As in the past four years, this unique event at the Leaning Tower of Pisa is under the direction of  Sir John Eliot Gardiner. This year’s festival is dedicated to the two protagonists of the music of the eighteenth century in Europe: Händel and Haydn.

The opening night will take place on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009 in the cathedral with the oratory of G.F. Händel, “Israel in Egypt”, performed by the Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists under the direction of Gardiner. The final concert will take place on October 9th, also in the cathedral. Listed is “The Creation” by F.J. Haydn.

Also for the other concerts the 18th Century will be in the spotlight. On September 22, there will be performed concerts by Bach with the famous violinist Viktoria Mullova at the Monumental Cemetery of Pisa. On the evening of  October 2nd, the String Quartet from Leipzig will perform “The Seven Last Words of our Savior on the Cross” by F.J. Haydn.

Holidays in Pisa and surroundings

The traces of its glorious past as a Maritime Republic are very evident in the city of Pisa. Let us only think of the spectacular Piazza dei Miracoli with the Cathedral, the Baptistery and the Leaning Tower in Pisan Romanesque style. The historic university is not less famous. The Faculty of Physics and Mathematics is in fact one of the best in the world. The surroundings are equally magical as the city.  There are the lovely landscapes of the Era Valley with its romantic wine road along the Pisan hills, beautiful trails and lakes, medieval villages and finally the unique Etruscan town of Volterra, not only known for its art treasures and architecture, but also for the alabaster processing. Not to forget the history and traditions, which have nothing lost of its luster through the millennia and which are celebrated until today. We offer you for your holidays innovative and incomparable package tours with culture, sports, food, wineand golf. A holiday on a farm surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and dreamily Etruscan villages is certainly unforgettable as well.
